How to disable facebook group chat!

Back when Facebook launched the revamped groups, many of us were pretty excited.Groups are going strong and continue to annoy people who haven’t been able to use their Facebook Chat since the introduction.

However, in response to a massive user push, Facebook has given us the ability to opt out of Group Chat just by going to your Edit Settings button on a group’s page.
So, instead of being a blanket response to all of your groups, you’re able to control who you get chats from and who you don’t.
So here’s your two-step process, just in case you can’t find what we’re referring to:

Click on Edit Settings. A Pop-up will appear like the one shown below.

Uncheck the SEND ME GROUP CHAT MESSAGES box and click on Save Settings.

You are done. You will no longer receive chat messages from this group.

  3. Facebook is great to meet new people, but I personally can't stand the chat box and group chats. I disabled this right away and went through all my settings to make sure I have it set up to my likings. Thanks for posting up this information.

  5. You can also disable facebook group chat if you reject joining on a group or go offline in chat box. It is also better to disable your facebook chat because most are spam.

  8. Facebook has bowed to user demands for the ability to turn off chat for the new groups function launched earlier this month.

Inside Facebook reported on the change, which was announced in the form of an answer to a Quora question.
Now users can opt out of chat by going to “edit settings” and unticking a checkbox for “send me group chat messages” to opt out of chat with that group.
The option remains to temporarily decline group chat messages – and all chat messages – by signing out of chat in the lower right hand corner of the screen.

  9. I don’t know if that’s true. I have some Facebook friends who seem to want to chat constantly. That doesn’t mean that I should unfriend them as I enjoy interacting with them in other ways. Real-time chat just isn’t always my preferred method of interaction, both for friends or groups. Similarly, for a lot of forums and mailing lists that I belong to, I prefer to select daily digest or web only rather than receive every email. Whatever the Facebook engineers think of the matter, I think they made the right decision in listening to user feedback.

  12. Thanks for this. It can sometimes flood our news stream, without the trick. It's nice to keep everything in check and control the messages coming in.
